BOSTON (WHDH) - All aboard the Polar Express.

The train from the popular children’s book came to life at South Station on Saturday.

Mayor Marty Walsh was there to greet passengers boarding the train.

He posed for pictures and shook hands with the crowds.

Nearly 600 families enjoyed steaming cups of hot chocolate and sweets, while they listened to a reading of the book.

After Mayor Walsh’s visit to South Station, he traveled to Roxbury for a tree lighting event at Grove Hall.
