Police arrest suspect after multiple Springfield-area robberies

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WHDH) — The suspect in a string of multiple robberies in the greater Springfield area has been arrested.

Joseph Richey, 35 of Springfield will appear in court Thursday in Connecticut on drug charges and will appear at a later date in Massachusetts on warrants out of Agawan, Chicopee, Ludlow and West Springfield for charges related to robberies in those towns.

On July 6, Agawam Police contacted State Police for assistance in their investigation of a bank robbery.

The following day, Chicopee Police also requested assistance from State Police after a bank robbery. The description of the suspect matched the description of the Agawam suspect, as well as the suspect in a robbery at a convenience store in West Springfield.

During the course of the investigation, police learned the suspect was in Connecticut.

Police chase the suspect until they lost sight of him. He was then found at a Red Roof Inn on the state line.
