BOSTON (WHDH) - BOSTON (WHDH) – Boston Police shot and killed a mentally ill man who repeatedly swung a knife at officers in the South End early Sunday morning.
Just after midnight on Sunday, officials said they received a 911 call from a mother asked for help with her son, who she says suffers from paranoid schizophrenia.
Officials said the 31-year-old man, with a history of mental illness, pulled a knife on paramedics who were trying to help him. Police responded by shooting the man and killing him.
“Unfortunately the officers had no choice,” said Boston Police Commissioner William Evans.
Several police officers and two paramedics suffered minor injuries.
The District Attorney’s office is investigating the shooting.
