UXBRIDGE, MASS. (WHDH) - Uxbridge police are searching for two men in connection with vandalism at the Joseph Richardson Cemetery earlier in May.

Police believe vandals are responsible for breaking and knocking over historic gravestones.

The Uxbridge Historic Cemetery Committee said the oldest gravestone dates back to 1784. Two Civil War veterans are also buried there.

“The first reaction is always disgusting, heartbroken and disrespect for the people who are buried there and the people who still have people buries there,” Sheryl Romasco, of the Uxbridge Historic Cemetery Commitee, said.

Officers said the damage could have been done sometime this month, but it was just recently found.

Police said this cemetery was also the site of a brush fire in late April and according to investigators, the fire was intentionally set.

The cemetery committee believes they’ll be able to fix the headstones, but will need help from donations.
