PRINCETON, MASS. (WHDH) - Police say a woman who was murdered while she was out for a jog in Princeton over the weekend struggled with her attacker.

Police are now asking the public for help finding the male suspect, who likely suffered injuries in the struggle. According to the District Attorney, the man may have suffered scratches, cuts or bruises.

Vanessa Marcotte, 27, left her mother’s house on Sunday to go jogging and never returned. Her body was found hours later in a wooded area and sources told 7News her body had burn marks on the head, hands and feet.

Police said anyone who may have seen a car parked on the side of Brook Station Road between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday is urged to contact police. Anyone with information can call the anonymous tip line: 508-453-7589.

In the meantime, residents remain on edge and are locking their doors.

“It’s the sense of who is this person or what really happened,” said Princeton resident Stephen Jones. “The unknown is what makes people very uncomfortable.”

Marcotte lived in New York City and was an account manager for Google. She was in Massachusetts for the weekend, visiting family.
