WILMINGTON, MASS. (WHDH) - A pedestrian is dead after police said she was struck by a car Wednesday afternoon in Wilmington.

According to police, the incident happened in the parking lot of a Rite Aid on Main Street. Witnesses told 7News a car went through a red light and into the parking lot, hitting a 52-year-old woman who worked at the Cumberland Farms across the street.

“I saw a bunch of cars and someone laying on the ground,” said Emily Hartigan, who works at the McDonald’s next door. “Some people went outside and called 911. It was very chaotic.” Hartigan said several of her managers ran outside to help the woman who was hit.

The woman, who was from Wilmington, was taken to Lahey Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The driver was also taken to the hospital.

Two other cars in the parking lot were also hit and damaged. Nobody was inside either of the two cars.
