WESTFORD, MASS. (WHDH) - Police in Westford have rescued a hawk that was found injured on Wednesday.

The department posted photos on its Facebook page of a hawk injured with one of the town’s officers, Officer Hartley.

Officials believe the hawk was injured trying to catch a mouse.

Police, with the assistance of the Westford Veterinary Emergency and Referral Center, brought the bird to the Tufts University Bernice Barbour Wildlife Medicine Building in Grafton.

Officials say the hawk’s injuries are too severe for it to be released back into the wild at this point.
