WATERTOWN, MASS. (WHDH) - The Watertown Police Department is seeking the public’s help after a dog was found severely emaciated.
Police said the pit bull wandered into the Home Depot on Arsenal Street on June 4 around 6 a.m. Bill Carter, who works at the Home Depot, said he saw the dog by the Charles River as he was heading to work.
“He’s all skin and bones,” said Carter. “I stopped my car to try and get him but he kept going.” Twenty minutes later, the dog walked into the store.
The pit bull had numerous lesions that may be cigarette burns and each ear had a small notch cut into them. His nails were overgrown and he had so little muscle on his body, making sitting painful.
He currently weighs 26 pounds, which is less than half of what a healthy weight would be for a pit bull. Police said the dog is very friendly and is being called “Sully Doe” until they can properly identify him.
Once Sully gains more weight, animal control officials said he will be up for adoption.
