SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Springfield police are investigating after a 16-year-old boy turned up at the hospital with a gunshot wound and told investigators he was robbed of his cellphone.
The boy told police he was walking in the city’s Indian Orchard neighborhood at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday when he noticed a vehicle following him.
The teenager said he started to walk faster but felt a “strong tug” on his shirt and heard a loud bang before running away.
He told police that when he stopped running he realized he had been shot in the right calf and his cellphone was missing. He was taken to Baystate Medical Center by family members. His injuries are not considered life threatening.
Police are still looking for the suspect.
