BOSTON (WHDH) - Police are stepping up patrols around a popular park in East Boston after one man is dead and another is injured in separate attacks.

Police say the two incidents happened at the Belle Isle Marsh Reservation.

According to State Police, both attacks happened within the past two weeks.

They say it appears someone went after an 83-year-old man Memorial Day weekend. The elderly man had a serious head injury and died three days later.

The same day that man died, police were called back to the park following a report of an assault on a 67-year-old man from Lynn.

That victim has non-life threatening injuries and managed to give police a description of his attacker.

It is reported that both attacks occurred in broad daylight, in the afternoon.

Investigators are now trying to figure out if the crimes are connected.

People who visit the marsh say these incident won’t keep them away from the reservation, but will make them more cautious.

For now there is an increased police presence while officials investigate the incidents.
