PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island has hired a new chief marketing officer after its embarrassing state tourism campaign included a video mistakenly featuring a scene from Iceland.

A spokesman for the state’s commerce department said Friday that the new tourism chief is Lara Salamano, a Warwick native and University of Rhode Island graduate.

Salamano’s most recent experience is as a marketing executive for New York media firm Pop, a joint venture between CBS Corp. and Lions Gate Entertainment.

The former chief marketing officer, Betsy Wall, resigned in April after Democratic Gov. Gina Raimondo called the mistakes unacceptable. Wall oversaw the botched rollout of the tourism campaign.

Dissatisfaction with the statewide campaign also recently led state lawmakers to propose sending money back to regional tourism groups.
