State Police arrested a Salem Police officer on Tuesday afternoon on one count of rape and one count of indecent assault and battery.
Brian Butler was arraigned after being accused of raping a male prisoner in the booking area of the Salem Police Station.
Police say the alleged rape of the 28-year-old victim was caught on camera.
Butler pleaded not guilty and was held on $10,000 bail. He says he had consensual sex with a man in protective custody.
Butler is married to the chief of police in Salem. He has been a member of the department for 30 years.
