San Francisco police are desperately seeking information about a missing two-year-old girl.

The concern for the toddler, whose name is Ariana, took a grave turn when police discovered her mother’s body on Friday.

Investigators said the girl’s mother, Nicole Fitts, was the victim of a homicide.

Ariana was last seen by friends and relatives last February, according to police.

Fitts was last seen just a few days before her body was found.

Her family contacted police on Tuesday to report Fitts and Ariana missing, with the hope that police could find them before things took a turn for the worse.

"Obviously they wanted us to help find Nicole,” Gracve Gatpandan of the San Francisco Police Department said. “Unfortunately she was found deceased as a victim of a homicide, but now we are doing our very best to make sure and try to have Ariana come back home safely."

Police have not said how Fitts was killed or where her body was discovered.

Ariana and her mother lived in San Francisco, but were known to visit the Los Angeles and Santa Cruz areas frequently, police said.
