DELTONA, FL (NBC) — Residents in a retirement community endured a scary moment when a squirrel attacked a resident in Florida.

The woman was taking in some sun when a squirrel attacked her, biting her leg.

The woman panicked when the squirrel would not let go, running inside the center.

When people started to assist the woman, the squirrel let go and started attacking other residents.

Witnesses said the squirrel bit and scratched several people.

Workers called 9-1-1. Two residents and a staff member were taken to a hospital with squirrel bites.

The squirrel was tossed outside shortly after the attack.

Victims were treated and released.

A representative from the company that runs the senior center says none of the residents were treated for rabies while at the hospital.
