A dog was found starving and abandoned in the cold Monday morning in Dedham.

Dedham Animal Control officer Jayson Tracy said he got a call about the dog just before noon. Tracy said the dog was found suffering from extreme starvation. The dog, now named Stitch, was taken to the Animal Rescue League of Boston, where he is undergoing medical treatment.

"This dog was cruelly abandoned," said Lt. Alan Borgal of the Animal Rescue League’s law enforcement team. "He is weak and sore, with no body fat to speak of. He could have easily died of exposure in the cold today if he wasn’t found so quickly."

Stitch is approximately 2 years old and had no collar when he was found. Anyone with information on him or who may have abandoned him in Dedham is asked to call Dedham Animal Control at 781-751-9106.
