New Hampshire officials and citizens will gather for a ceremony to honor the state’s more than 45,000 Vietnam veterans in Hanover.

The state held its first "welcome home" ceremony for Vietnam veterans four years ago in Concord and has maintained the tradition since. Both Gov. Maggie Hassan and U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte will speak at the Saturday morning event at Hanover High School.

Hassan’s office says Vietnam veterans make up more than a third of the state’s population of veterans. The annual ceremony is designed to give these veterans the welcome home few of them received when returning from the then widely criticized war.

The ceremony begins at 11 a.m. Saturday.
