MARBLEHEAD, MASS. (WHDH) - Police are searching for a suspect who exposed himself and tried to grab a woman on a trail in Marblehead Wednesday.

Officials have issued an “urgent safety issue” after receiving the report of a man attempting to grab a woman.

Police said a woman in her early 40s was walking on a rail trail near Route 114 when she was approached by an unknown man on a bicycle. The man allegedly exposed himself and attempted to grab her. The woman screamed and police said the suspect ran off.

The woman was not harmed. Schools in the area were quickly notified of the incident. One nearby school moved all of its students inside as a precaution.

Police said the man fled the scene on his bicycle in the direction of Salem. While no arrests have been made yet, police said they are following some leads.

Officials say an increased police presence will be in the area indefinitely. Police advised people using the trail to not walk alone.
