BEVERLY, MASS. (WHDH) - The State Police Bomb Squad responded to the Bertucci’s in Beverly Monday after receiving a report about suspicious device.

Police were called to the restaurant by an employee.

As a precaution, the Bertucci’s and nearby stores and other restaurants were also evacuated.

Officials said the item turned out to be a homemade medical device used for electrical stimulation by a Parkinson’s patient to help with joint pain.

It was not a hoax device.

The patient called the restaurant Monday night looking to get the device back after accidentally leaving it behind.

Investigators were able to corroborate his explanation with his physician.
