FALMOUTH, MASS. (WHDH) - A man was shot by police after a violent encounter, according to officers.

Police say the man barricaded himself in his bedroom, and then pointed a gun at officers.

Witnesses say the man was drunk and holding a gun to his head.

Police say they received a call around 8 p.m. about an intoxicated man that barricaded himself in his bedroom, armed with a gun.

Officers evacuated the house along Teaticket Highway.

According to officials, officers called the man on a cell phone to try and talk him down.

Police say he continued to make suicidal threats and refused to come out.

Police shut down part of the road and warned neighbors to be careful.

When officers finally went inside the home, they say the man pointed the gun at them, and that’s when they shot him in the hip.

Police say the man will recover, and no officers were hurt.

Investigators gathered evidence at the house Saturday morning.

Police have not released the name of the suspect.
