For the third time in three days a car crash has occurred under the East Street Bridge in Westwood.

Wednesday morning two cars collided head-on under the bridge.

Surveillance video shows all three crashes, Wednesday’s car crash and trucks hitting the bridge Monday and Tuesday.

A variety of factors are blamed for the crashes, the bridge’s low height and the narrow road underneath, but there are plenty of signs warning drivers.

“I expect that this is going to be a continuing problem. Just between now and the time that we met with the MBTA we were still seeing an accident a month even with the $40,000 we put into signage to try and warn people of it. Three accidents in three days is an indication it isn’t going away any time soon,” Westwood Town Administrator Michael Jailet said.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation has said the bridge is now a priority on their list of projects.

The estimated cost of replacing the bridge with one more suitable is around $5-million.

It’s unclear how soon that work will begin.
