BOSTON (WHDH) - An everyday commute in the O’Neill tunnel was brought to a standstill Thursday afternoon when a trash truck caught fire.
Pictures and videos taken by other drivers showed the cab of the truck engulfed in flames.
The fire closed all southbound lanes Thursday afternoon.
According to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, the fire occurred at Purchase street, and backed up traffic for miles.
Firefighters said it was a tough fire to fight because it is often tough getting water into the tunnel
The truck has since been removed.
