A tractor trailer truck caught on fire on Rt. 495 southbound in Milford on Wednesday causing a 7-mile backup.

According to State Police, the fire happened near exit 20. around 5 p.m. Crews two took hours to clear the scene.

The company, which is a paper merchant, said there were no injuries. 

Firefighters said the blaze ripped through the roof of the truck. 

A roadside assistance worker responded immediately and redirected traffic, firefighters said. 

The driver told firefighters he heard a noise from the engine and pulled over. The truck then caught fire. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Firefighters say $100,000 of equipment was lost.
