Two UMass-Dartmouth students struck by car, injured

DARTMOUTH, MA (WHDH) - Police say two students at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth were injured after being struck by a car Thursday night.

Officials have identified the two victims as Katherine Canavan, 21, and Ellen Canavan, 19.

Police say the women were walking at the intersection of Old Westport Road at Cross Road, near the entrance to the campus, when they were struck by a car.

Katherine Canavan was treated at St. Luke’s Hospital and has since been released. Ellen Canavan was transported to Rhode Island Hospital and has not been released.

The operator, identified as John Allen, 53 of Westport, stayed on scene following the crash.
