BOSTON (WHDH) - The drug that treated former President Jimmy Carter’s melanoma has now been proven to help patients suffering from advanced lung cancer.

Keytruda works by unmasking tumor cells so they cannot hide from the body’s immune system.

Researchers say trials show the drug is also able to lengthen the time it took for lung cancer to start growing again.

Results show the drug also improved survival rates compared to chemotherapy.
