WESTERLY, R.I. (AP) — Westerly police are trying to determine why a van crashed through a wall of a local Wal-Mart store.

Authorities say the van smashed into the store shortly before 12:30 a.m. Wednesday and ended up partially inside the building, after some witnesses said they it being driven erratically.

The driver was seriously injured and taken to Rhode Island Hospital. His name and condition haven't been released. Police say his injuries don't appear to be life-threatening. No one else was in the van, and no one in the store was hurt.

The 24-hour store closed for about an hour and re-opened after a building inspector checked the damage.

Police say they've interviewed witnesses and will be looking at surveillance video footage.
