Vatican City (NBC) — It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at the Vatican.

This year’s Vatican Christmas tree, an 82 foot spruce pine from the Northern Italian town of Scurell, was put up in Saint Peter’s Square Thursday.

The Christmas tree will be officially unveiled on December 9th, along with the nativity that this year will come from Malta.

The tree will be decorated with 18,000 LED lights and will stand in Saint Peter’s Square until January 8th.
