PRINCETON, MASS. (WHDH) - Princeton Police are investigating an apparent homicide after a woman was found dead Sunday night.

The body of Vanessa Marcotte, 27, was found around 8:20 p.m. in a wooded area off off Brook Station Road.

Sources tell 7News the body had burns to her head, hands and feet.

Police launched a search Sunday night after Marcotte was reported missing by her family.

Marcotte was said to either be walking or jogging along Brook Station Road Sunday between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. before she went missing.

Marcotte grew up in Leominster, and was about a half-mile from her mother’s house, where she was visiting, when she disappeared.

Marcotte was an account manager for Google in New York City.

Google released a statement Monday:

“Vanessa Marcotte was a much loved member of the Google team, working in our New York office for the last year and a half, and known for her ubiquitous smile, passion for volunteer work, and love of Boston sports. We are deeply shocked and saddened, and our thoughts are with her family and friends.”

According to an official, she was a 2011 honors graduate of Boston University.

Police said a preliminary investigating Marcotte’s body leads investigators to believe this was a homicide.

Police said they do not know if this was a random act.

They ask residents to use “an abundance of caution.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact State Police at 508-453-7589.
