SAUGUS – An Abington woman returned a missing class ring to a man from Newburyport, almost 50 years after he lost it.
Joseph Austin Murphey said he had his 1969 Newburyport High School class ring for a total of six hours before he lost it at the beach. Murphey thought it was gone forever until he was contacted 47 years later.
Stephanie Booth said she found the ring with the initials “J.A.M.” at the beach in Plymouth and went to work trying to track the person down. She contacted Murphey because he was the only person she found from his high school class with those initials. The two met for lunch on Saturday, where Booth presented him with his ring.
