WOONSOCKET, R.I. (AP) — Woonsocket Police say a man was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound shortly after crews responding to an emergency call heard a shot.
Police say in a news release that police and firefighters were called to a home around 9:25 a.m. Thursday for a report of a suicidal person. Police say they helped two people in the home evacuate, then heard what appeared to be a gunshot.
Officers then found a man inside dead. His name was not released.
Police and Fire Chief Gary Lataille (la-TEYE') say no firefighters or officers were shot at.
