A man was charged with larceny after he allegedly broke into several cars and stole personal items in Worcester, according to Worcester police.

Police responded to a reported larceny from several cars on Friday around 11:30 a.m. at Mill Street Motors in Worcester.

When officers arrived, the owner of the business told police someone had stolen several items from cars in his lot Thursday night. The owner said he became aware of the thefts when a customer picking up their car noticed the stereo was missing.

After the initial discovery, the owner checked all the cars in the lot. One car was missing a car battery, and the owner’s car was missing jewelry.

The owner then viewed the footage on the lot’s security cameras, and saw a man going through the cars around 7:00 p.m. Police said the suspect was an older man with gray hair.

There were approximately 10 cars in the lot at the time of the theft, and the suspect entered the ones that had unlocked doors.

The suspect was seen making a gesture to another person not in the video, and the video showed a white car with specific markings on it entering the lot.

The owner recognized the suspect as a person that had bought a car from the business a few years ago. The employees remembered where he lived because they had to deliver a car to his home.

Police went to the address of the suspect and found the white car with the same markings parked in front of the house. After a brief conversation with the suspect, the stolen items were recovered.

The suspect was identified as 60-year-old David Latino of Worcester. Latino was charged with larceny over the value of $250, and breaking and entering into a motor vehicle with the intent to commit a felony.

Latino will be arraigned at the Worcester County District Courthouse on Monday.
