Worcester Police investigate apparent drowning

WORCESTER (WHDH) - Worcester Police are investigating an apparent drowning in Coes Pond.

According to police, around 7:30 p.m. Thursday officers responded to a Fremont Street home for a well-being check.

Officers were told that a 49-year-old went missing and was last seen at Coes Pond.

Officers met with neighbors and were told they had not seen the woman since 7 a.m.

Police were told she may have been swimming in the pond.

Due to darkness, a scuba search was postponed until daybreak.

Around 9 a.m., dive teams recovered the missing person.

Police said the drowning appears to be accidental.

An investigation is ongoing.
