YARMOUTH, MASS. (WHDH) - Yarmouth police arrested two men on drug and rape charges Friday.

According to police, an officer observed a drug deal between two well-known habitual drug users at the park on Butler Avenue in West Yarmouth shortly after 10:30 a.m.

The officer also saw a car involved leave the area at a high rate of speed.

Police immediately responded to the area, and conducted a stop of the car at the dead-end on Cottage Drive.

As the car stopped, the passenger exited the car and started to walk away. The driver also exited, and started walking toward the officers.

Both suspects were ordered to stop at gunpoint. The passenger hesitated, and was again ordered to stop. Both suspects eventually complied.

Police handcuffed and detained both suspects, and police found a large amount of cash on both parties.

The passenger did not have identification on him, and gave police a name that was later found to be false. He was later identified as 21-year-old Vanilson Monteiro of Boston.

Police later determined Monteiro was being actively sought by West Virginia Law Enforcement and that he was on their most wanted list for burglary, rape and first degree robbery.

The driver of the car was positively identified as 19-year-old Samael Mathieu of Hyannis.

After inspecting the car, police found a sandwich baggie containing a leafy substance in the center console with 15 individual buds of marijuana.

Monteiro was arrested and charged with distribution of a Class D drug, conspiracy to violate drug law, and being a fugitive from justice on court warrant.

Mathieu was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute a Class D drug, conspiracy to violate a drug law, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and obstructed/nontransparent windows.

Both suspects were taken to the Barnstable District Court for arraignment.
