NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WHDH) — A man was rescued after getting his head stuck in some rocks at a beach in Rhode Island.

Officials said the man was standing on a jetty in Narragansett when he dropped his cellphone. When the man bent down to pick it up, he ended up getting stuck between the rocks all the way up to his chest.

Firefighters said they had limited time to save the man before the tide came in. Airbags also were not used out of fear the rocks would shift, making things worse. The solution that freed the man? Olive oil.

“Olive oil. Lots of olive oil did the trick,” said Narragansett Fire Captain Peter Taylor. “We managed to spray him down and apply a lot of olive oil and we were able to dislodge him.”

The man was taken to the hospital to be treated for hypothermia and a small foot injury. He is expected to be OK.
