Red card behavior on a Rhode Island soccer field, after a middle school coach was accused of abusing one of his players.

According to a police report earlier this month, the boy’s parents said Ron Cervasio, 71, approached their son who was sitting on the bench during the game and, “grabbed him by his ear bringing him to a standing position without saying a word, then escorted his son to the end of the bench while still pulling his ear.”

Several people reportedly saw the incident, including the assistant coach, and claim Cervasio was verbally abusive toward the players during the games and practices.

Once the incident was brought to the attention of the superintendent and middle school principal, Cervasion was removed as coach and isn’t allowed near the soccer team.

The school released a statement saying:

At this time the assistant coach will continue as the coach of the team for the remainder of the season and Cervasio will not be present.
