A lucky fan from Northborough lived the Bruins dream, meeting some of the players after getting invited as a “special guest.”

Liam Fitzgerald, 7, who has Down syndrome and battled leukemia, has become an inspiration to the players and to the people who know him.

“To have Liam touch people in that way, it’s a blessing to us and wonderful to share,” Liam’s father Bill Fitzgerald said.

This year for Halloween, Liam dressed up as his favorite Bruins player: Number 54 Adam McQuaid.

His mother posted the photo on Facebook and it went viral, getting into the hands of McQuaid himself.

The family got a phone call asking to attend a Bruins game as special guests. He got named “fan of the game” on the jumbotron, interacting with other fans. One veteran at the game gave the boy an action combat badge, telling him “there’s no fight he can’t win.”

Not only did Liam get to meet his favorite player, but he also got to meet Milan Lucic, Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand and Shawn Thornton.

“We never expected to meet so many players so gracious so fun,” Christine Fitzgerald, Liam’s mother, said.
