The US figure skating team had their medal moment Monday.

The team, which included local pair Marissa Castelli and Simon Shnapir, received their bronze medals in the first ever team event.

The US finished behind Russia and Canada.

Marissa Castelli, who is originally from Rhode Island, says it is an honor to compete in the team event and that she has received a lot of support from her family and friends back home.

Two of those people are her grandparents, who say it’s not always easy watching her compete.

“We were on pins and needles trying to see if they were going to go into third place. Oh we were nervous wrecks,” her grandfather said.

“Oh we were so nervous. My heart was beating a mile a minute. I’m telling you. But then finally when we knew she was in third place, ah what a relief,” her grandmother said.

But Castelli isn’t done yet, she will compete with Shnapir in the pairs individual event this week.
