BOSTON (WHDH) - Red Sox slugger David Ortiz posted a thank you note to fans Wednesday afternoon following his last game at Fenway Park.

“Well it wasn’t the way we planned, but I wouldn’t give up this team or this season for the world,” he said.

The Sox were swept in the ALDS by the Cleveland Indians Monday night.

After the game, Ortiz went out to the pitcher’s mound, taking off his hat to fans and becoming clearly emotional.

In the tweet, Ortiz says, “Never forget what we did. Do not be upset, instead smile, the future is bright with all these young studs!”

Ortiz, 40, had a stellar final season, batting .315 with 38 doubles and 127 RBIs. For his career, Ortiz hid .286 with 541 home runs and 1,768 RBIs.

Ortiz is 17th all time on the career home run list.
