FOXBORO, MASS. (WHDH) - All eyes are on Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo as he fills in for Tom Brady when the Patriots’ regular season kicks off this weekend.

Garoppolo said he is excited and feels ready to lead the team against the Arizona Cardnials this Sunday. He will be starting quarterback for the first four games as Brady serves his Deflategate suspension.

“It’s different without Tom, no question about it, but it is what it is at this point,” said Garoppolo.

Garoppolo has spent the last two seasons as Brady’s backup and he said he is ready for the chance to take the lead.

“It is a phenomenal opportunity. This is why you play the game, you play to be in the game and play, you don’t want to be the backup,” said Garoppolo.

The Patriots also announced that Dont’a Hightower and Rob Gronkowski have been named team captains, a first for each of them.
