Skier Ted Ligety now holds not one but two Olympic gold medals. Ligety is also the first American to ever win the men’s giant slalom and he told 7’s Nancy Chen it’s all still settling in.
“This Olympics has been a struggle up until this point. I was one of the favorites in the combined and was a medal contender in the super g and I didn’t medal in either of those events so that was somewhat frustrating,” said Ted Ligety, giant slalom gold medalist.
A struggle until Wednesday when he competed in the giant slalom, his specialty.
“But I knew my best event was the giant slalom and I knew that was the event I wanted to be able to win the most and to be able to compete under that kind of pressure and do what I did was an awesome, awesome feeling,” Ligety said.
But Ligety is still having a little fun-signing his autograph on posters, memorabilia and even his brother’s forehead right before he went on the TODAY Show.
“He threatened me like ‘I’m going to get your forehead.’ And I said, ‘no you’re not.’ He still came at me, and I couldn’t stop him once the cameras were rolling,” said Charley Ligety, brother.
There isn’t too much time for celebrating, Ted Ligety still has the slalom race this weekend.
