GODLEY, TX – A second grade teacher at Godley Elementary school in Johnson County Texas has a lot of people talking.

Brandy Young sent a letter home explaining that their children will have no homework this school year.

Young said her research was “unable to prove that homework improve student performance.”

Instead, she hopes the parents will spend the evenings doing things to help their children’s success, including dinner as a family, reading, and playing outside.

She wants her students to “take what you’ve learned in the classroom and apply outside of the classroom. That’s what I hope they are doing with their learning that they do in my room. I hope they go outside and they go home and they use it.”
