Brrrr… Seemingly, the cold keeps getting colder as temperatures this morning start off below freezing in many towns. For Boston, it’s the coldest start since April 10th and while the atmosphere this morning is cold enough to produce snow, it generally won’t be later today and tonight for most of our area.

With that said, by midday and this afternoon, some wet snow/sleet likely mixes in outside 495, especially in the higher terrain of Worcester County. Even there though, little to no accumulations are expected with temps above freezing, so wet roads will be the main issue later today and not white roads. Any little/minor accumulations there would be on the colder surfaces like the grass or car tops. Although, if you head far enough west, west of I-91 and into the Berkshires, up to a few inches of snow will fall there with the highest totals in the higher terrain.

Rain becomes the story for most this afternoon with wet weather overspreading much of area after 1pm. Anything before that is thanks to a couple of isolated ocean effect rain showers near the coast earlier on. The main rain shield becomes steady by the evening commute and even heavy at times tonight with rumbles of thunder possible near/afternoon midnight along with rising temps and a gusty onshore winds. The winds will be strongest along the immediate coast with gusts to 50mph possible after midnight.  A wind advisory is in place from 1am-10am. Many towns pick up near 1″ of rain with isolated higher amounts in any localized downpours that line up.

Rain tapers to a couple isolated showers early Friday as temperatures hold near 50 with a gusty breeze through the day.

The weekend looks ok… Saturday the better of the two as some showers are possible again on Sunday. Temps will be seasonable this weekend with highs in the 50s.

Trick of Treat forecasts look good for all the little ghosts and goblins.  Afternoon highs with sun run in the low 50s with temps in the 40s for the early evening.  Tuesday and Wednesday look like great days to let the kids play outside and burn off the sugar high!
