The women take center stage Tuesday with a pair of team finals at the Riocentro.
First up is the women’s bronze medal match between Japan and Singapore. Japan was knocked off by Germany in a thriller Sunday evening in five matches; before that, Japan hadn’t dropped a match during the team tournament. Singapore were dismissed by China in the second semifinal Monday morning, having snuck past South Korea in five games in the quarterfinals.
Of course, the main event Tuesday night will be the gold medal match, as China looks to defend their London gold against Germany, who were the beneficiary of that four-hour marathon against Japan in their semifinal. China has lived up to the billing so far, not dropping a set yet in this tournament.
