Fencing has been a part of the Olympics since 1896.

The goal is to hit your opponent as many times as possible.

7News’ Nancy Chen suited up and took some lessons from a local Olympian.

Eli Dershwitz, 20, is competing in his first Olympics.

Before heading to Rio, the Sherborn native showed Nancy Chen how to duel.

These aren’t the swordfights of Hollywood, it’s about subtle and fast movements.

Each fencer, and his or her sword, is attached through electric cords to the scoring machine, which keeps track of successful hits.

Even masks are hooked up.

Everything is regulated, such as the fact that you cannot cross your feet when moving backwards and forwards.
