DALLAS (WHDH) - A celebration of life was held Thursday in Dallas for Sergeant Michael Smith at Watermark Community Church.

Smith was one of five Dallas police officers gunned down last Thursday during a protest.

Officers from across the country as well as Canada attended the service.

Smith, an army veteran, served with the Dallas police force 28 years.

Chief David Brown told Smith’s widow Heidi and the couple’s two daughters they are part of the law enforcement family now.

“My brothers in blue and khaki, let’s stand,” Brown said. “This is your family now.”

Following the service, a funeral procession took smith to his final resting place in the Garden of Honor at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas.

A private catholic funeral mass was held for smith Wednesday.
