LOS ANGELES (WHDH) - A singer with local roots will appear in the battle rounds on this week’s “The Voice.”

Courtney Harrell, 36, is from Dorchester and studied at the Berklee School of Music. She wowed the judge last week during her blind audition, singing “Let It Go” by James Bay. She chose to be on Blake Shelton’s team and will now sing in the battle rounds.

“I would like to challenge myself here by singing songs I wouldn’t normally take on or things that are outside of what I would write to stretch me vocally,” said Harrell.

Harrel is a songwriter who has written music for artists like Mary J. Blige and Jennifer Hudson.
