MIDDLEBORO, Mass. (WHDH) — Police confirmed that a woman in Middleboro was shot and killed by a man who then pointed his gun at police.

Neighbors said they heard more than a dozen gunshots Thursday night but it wasn’t until Friday morning that they heard a woman who lived at the home is dead and another man who lived there is under arrest. Neighbors on the quiet street said the gunfire they heard was intense.

“I mean the gunshots were enough vibrate the windows on the house. That’s why we thought something was wrong, because it was too much. Like 15, right after another,” said Tyler Lambert, neighbor.

The district attorney said the woman was shot in the chest after midnight. When police arrived the woman's husband and another man were performing CPR, but she later died at the hospital. Police said there was another man in the driveway armed with a long-barrel gun. The D.A. said the police told him to put out gun down but instead he pointed the gun at officers and they opened fire and shot the man.

Neighbors said they complained about rifle shots in the neighborhood before, but this man said what he heard was clearly not someone fooling around what gun in the woods.

“You could just tell from the vibrations, it was crazy. We’re in the middle of the woods, this usually doesn’t happen. We’re not in the city,” Lambert said.

The district attorney said the man and woman did know each other. The man was rushed to the hospital and is expected to be okay. He is facing charges of assault with intent to murder the police, but has not yet been named as suspect in the woman's death.
