One person was killed and another was seriously injured after a car crash occurred Friday on Route 16 southbound in Rochester.
According to New Hampshire State Police, the crash occurred shortly after 8:30 p.m. in the area of Exit 15.
When troopers arrived, they found a car off the west side of the roadway between the mainline and the Exit 15 on ramp. The driver was found outside of the vehicle, and was later identified as 37-year-old Lawrence Douglas of Rochester.
Douglas was taken by Med-Flight to Maine Medical Center in Portland with life-threatening injuries.
Douglas’ passenger, 54-year-old James Gosselin, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigations showed the car was traveling southbound on Route 16 when it lost control, struck the center barrier, and rolled over several times off the right side of the roadway.
Due to the collision, Route 16 in the area of the crash was closed for approximately five hours.
Police said speed may have been a factor in this crash, but the incident remains under investigation. Anyone that may have further information related to the collision, or who witnessed the crash are encouraged to contact Trooper Greg Dube at 603-223-8490 or by email at greg.dube@dos.nh.gov.
