GEORGES MILLS, N.H. (WHDH) — A 108-year-old Chicago Cubs fan watched proudly from her assisted living home in New Hampshire as her beloved team won the World Series Wednesday night.

Hazel Nilson, a Chicago native, was born on Aug. 21, 1908. She grew up just a mile from Wrigley Field and said she was always intrigued by baseball. Nilson was only a few months old the last time the Cubs won the World Series.

“They were always my team,” said Nilson, who lives at the Sunapee Cove Assisted Living Home. “The good, bad or indifferent.”

Nilson’s loyalty paid off in the tenth inning of Game 7 when the Cubs pulled ahead and won. As they celebrated in Cleveland, Nilson celebrated in her apartment, wearing her Cubs World Series hat. Nilson said she jumped out of her chair and yelled.

“I’d always wished and hoped that they would win. And when I saw the game last night, oh my gosh,” said Nilson.
