BOURNE, MASS. (WHDH) - BOURNE, MA (WHDH) – Suspect John Allen, 18, is due in court Friday for allegedly assaulting a teenage girl in Bourne.

On Thursday, police said an investigation led to the arrest of Allen, who is from Buzzards Bay. Allen was charged with felony attempted kidnapping and strangulation, in addition to other lesser charges. He posted bail late Thursday and will be arraigned on Friday.

Police said the girl had been walking to school along Puritan Road last Thursday when she was grabbed from behind and thrown to the ground by a man she did not know. The man allegedly grabbed the girl by the neck but a witness came upon the scene and stopped the assault. The man then fled the scene. The girl was not injured.

Bob Chapman, a local Bourne resident, said he is happy police found the suspect and that the neighborhood is tight-knit. “People watch out for their neighbors,” Chapman said.

Ed Hoitt, another local resident, was surprised officials caught a suspect because they did not have much to go on. Hoitt said he believes the Bourne Police Department is good.
