STURBRIDGE, MASS. (WHDH) - Two men from Maine were arrested on Route 84 in Sturbridge for trafficking in heroin, according to Massachusetts state police.
Troopers were on patrol on Route 84 when they observed a car traveling eastbound without a front license plate around 5:00 p.m.
According to police, the troopers stopped the car after they noticed the driver driving erratically.
The driver, 46-year-old Daniel Reed of Bangor, Maine, was unlicensed and had an outstanding warrant for his arrest out of Lawrence District Court for possession with intent to distribute a Class B substance.
The passenger in the car, 45-year-old Francis Spranzo of Bangor, also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest out of Great Barrington District Court for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
Reed was arrested for the warrant, and was also charged with several motor vehicle offenses, including number plate violation, marked lanes violation, no license in possession, and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
Spranzo was placed under arrest on the outstanding warrant.
After conducting an investigation, police discovered a large amount of a substance believed to be heroin, and more than $4,800 in cash inside the car. As a result, both men were additionally charged with trafficking in heroin and conspiracy to violate the drug laws.
Reed was held pending his arraignment in Dudley District Court Monday. Spranzo was held pending $1,045 bail and will also be arraigned in Dudley District Court.
